BMW has finally introduced the much awaited 8 series range in the Indian market; forming the flagship in BMW’s model line-up the car will be available Gran Coupe, Gran Coupe M Sport and M8 avatars in the Indian market.
Prices for the 8-series flagship range are upwards of Rs 1.30 crores for the standard version, 1.55 crores for the 8-series M sport and Rs 2.15 crores for the high performance M8. (All prices ex-showroom India).
Measuring over 5 metres long, the 8-series Gran Coupe is a pretty large sedan, however it does pack in a fair bit of aggression in its styling. It gets a well sized kidney grille flanked by a modern LED daytime running lights and a sporty bumper with a large air dam. The side profile shows off the long nose along with a slopping roofline and angled side air intakes, while and alloy wheels add to the sense of style. The rear however gets a boot-lid mounted spoiler along with large LED taillamps and dual exhaust.
The interior of the 8-seires Gran Coupe makes it a very special place to be in; there are plenty of rich leather and premium materials all over the cabin, the cockpit like layout for the dashboard complete with a waterfall like design for the centre console looks well built too. In terms of features the 8-seies gets a panoramic sunroof, four zone climate control, all digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, 14 way power adjust for driver seat, dynamic cruise control.
Powering the flagship of BMW’s sedan range is a 3.0 litre twin turbo that powers the 8 series Gran Coupe and makes 335 bhp and 499Nm of torque. it comes mated to an –speed transmission and does 0-100kmph in seconds. The high performance M8 receives a 4.4 litre twin turbo that churns 523bhp and 750Nm of torque and comes mated to a –speed transmission and propels to 100kmph from 0 in 3.3 seconds.
BMW has also paid full respects to safety in the 8-series range in a way that apart from offering the usual airbags and ABS with brake assist also offered attentiveness assist, cornering brake control, electric parking brake with auto hold control, tyre pressure monitor, electronic vehicle immobilizer, dynamic stability control with automatic braking differential assist and dynamic traction control in safety kit.
The BMW M8 rivals the Mercedes Benz S63 AMG, while the 8-series Gran Coupe takes on the fight to the Mercedes Benz CLS and Porsche Panamera.
