BMW has launched the new generation Z4 sportscar in the Indian market. Prices for the sportscar range between 64.90 Lakhs for the 20i trim and Rs 78.90 Lakhs for the M40i variant, however the car is sold as a CBU only.
Designed and developed using innovative inputs from Toyota’s iconic sportscar Supura, the latest iteration of the BMW Z4 is based on the CLAR platform that leads to a direct 50:50 weight distribution. The styling has evolved and it now looks and feels sportier than its predecessor yet it still retains the long bonnet and tightly packed rear.
The new Z4 also gets a new iteration of the kidney grille with mesh design that looks classy and premium. It also gets newly designed headlamps that for the first time use vertical placement for the daytime running lamps and high beam. The bumper gets sharp elements with a wide air dam and large air inlets. The rear sports sleek taillamps with large air inlets along with dual exhausts which completes the sporty look. The two seater sportscar rides on 18-inch wheels on the sDrive20i and 19-inchers on the M40i trim.
The 2019 Z4 also receives a new soft top roof that opens and closes under 7 seconds flat with speeds upto 50kmph. BMW has also cleverly engineered the storage of the roof when opened which in turn creates a pretty usable luggage compartment of 281 litres.
The interior on the other hand reveals aesthetics with a brand new layout. The dashboard is driver focussed and refined in its design. Taking centre stage on the centre console is the touchscreen infotainment system that comes with version 7.0 operating system The 10.25 inch digital instrument console takes care of the instrumentation with the latest layout and colours. Spreading joy through the 12-loud speakers on board the Z4 is a 400 watt Harman Kadon surround system. It also gets a head’s up display for a quick glance of important information.
Under the hood, the Z4 now comes with a choice of two petrol engine options, a 2.0 litre sDrive20i and punchy M40i petrol. The sDrive20i produces 195 kmph and 320 Nm of torque and is capable of going from 0-100kmph in 6.6 seconds, while the M40i churns out 340 bhp and 500 Nm of torque sprints to 100kmph from standstill in 4.5 seconds. Both engine options get an 8-speed steptronic sport transmission with rear wheel drive layout as standard.
The BMW Z4 also gets an adaptive M suspension that can be electrically adjusted at any time to suit driver needs. Braking is handled by M-sport brakes feature large brake disc and exclusive blue painted callipers with M-logos.
The BMW Z4 rivals the Jaguar F-type and Porsche 911 Boxster when it comes to the competition. However having said that we expect the newly launched Z4 to find quite a many buyers for its full fledged sportscar looks and improved interiors.
