Hero Moto Corp has officially become the first two wheeler manufacturer to launch a BS6 compliant motorcycle in the country. The model launched is the famed and popular Splendour I-smart motorcycle.
Mr. Dinesh Tyagi, Director – ICAT said, “We congratulate Hero MotoCorp for becoming the country’s first two-wheeler manufacturer to get the BS-VI certification. The Type Approval Certificate was issued to the Company’s Splendor iSmart motorcycle that has been developed and manufactured indigenously by Hero MotoCorp. Last year ICAT issued the country’s first approval for BS-VI norms for Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) segment also. The BS-VI emission standards are much more elaborate in their scope and integrate substantial changes to existing emission standards ensuring cleaner products to the consumer.”
Hero MotoCorp s also mentioned in a press release that it received the Type Approval Certificate from International Centre for Automotive Technology for the Splendor i-Smart after it successfully tested the motorcycle for compliance of BS6 emissions norms.
Following the type approval process in which a manufacturer is required to build a prototype, get it tested and certified from any of the Govt approved agencies ICAT, ARAI or GARC. Hero got approval to start the manufacturing of the certified model which it had designed at its R&D hub Center of Innovation and technology in Jaipur Rajasthan.
With this, Hero MotoCorp has reaffirmed its commitment to be ready for the BS-VI transition much ahead of the April 1, 2020 deadline. The Company has the technological prowess for meeting the BS-VI norms and will now be gearing up to make its large portfolio of motorcycles and scooters BS-VI compliant.
Powering the motorcycle is a 110cc motor that produces 6.7 Kw of power and 9.0 Nm of torque. The bike comes mated to a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox and has a top speed of 92.1 kmph.
