Almost 10 years after the Hyundai i20 was launched in the Indian market, the car has hit a new milestone by registering 8.5 lakh units sold in the Indian market.
Keeping aside this new development, the Korean car maker has also claimed that the i20 is the fastest to hit this new milestone in the premium compact segment. The manufacturer has also added that the car has achieved an outstanding 5 star Euro NCAP rating and won over 30 converted awards including the Indian Car of the Year Award 2015 (ICOTY).
Commenting on this achievement, Mr. Vikas Jain, Asst. Vice President- National Sales, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “We are extremely delighted with this unprecedented milestone that i20 models have achieved of 1.3 Million global sales and have met the aspirations of Indian and Global customers. The i20 established the Premium Compact Segment and has been a stellar brand that personifies Hyundai’s Modern Premium positioning. It has set new benchmarks in the Premium Compact segment and continues to dominate with its world class appeal, performance and looks.”
Hyundai first brought the i20 brand to the Indian market in 2008, which was followed up with several updates until the Elite i20 landed in 2014. However at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi, Hyundai released an updated Elite i20 which added to the boost in sales.
Under its hood of the hatchback are a 1.4 litre diesel and 1.2 litre petrol motor. The 1.2 litre petrol puts out 83 ps and 11.6 kgm of torque. The 1.4 litre diesel on the other hand produces 90 ps and 22.4 kgm of torque.
Transmission options for the engines include 5-speed manual and CVT for petrol. However the diesel misses out on an automatic, but does get an advantage of having a 6-speed manual gearbox.
