Kia Sonet unveiled to the world

Kia has taken the wraps off the much anticipated sub compact SUV known as the Sonet. Don’t hold your breaths just yet, this was just an unveil for today while bookings have opened from 20th of August 2020 and customers can book their Sonet by making their initial payment of Rs 25,000 online through the Kia India website or visit the dealership.

Showcased in concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi, the Kia Sonet has now been previewed in production ready form at its world debut earlier this month. The India launch however is expected to happen closer to the festive season which is when the pricing will be announced as well.

The new Kia Sonet will be sold in two trims, Tech line & GT line along with petrol and diesel engine options with manual, IMT and automatic. On the features front it gets LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, electric sunroof, electric folding wing mirrors, red brake callipers at front in GT line, wireless charger with cooling function, smart key with push button, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and UVO connect app with 57 connectivity features.

Some of the first in segment features include Smart air purifier with virus protection, 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7 speaker Bose premium sound system with LED sound mood light and ventilated front seats. It also gets 392 litres boot space along with front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, Electric stability control,

The Sonet carries forward much of its concept design cues from the concept with an upright stance and compact proportions. It gets tiger nose grille, sleek crown jewel LED headlights with heartbeat daytime running lights, sporty bumper with large air dam, flared wheel arches with chunky alloy wheels, large roof rails,  heartbeat effect LED taillamps and dual tone bumper with dual exhausts. There’s also an upswept window line with a chrome strip running the length of the window and R16 inch premium crystal cut alloy wheels.

The interior of the Sonet comes finished in full black trim with bruised aluminium insets. The dashboard gets a floating touchscreen infotainment system along with hexagonal cube like A/C vents along with Air con controls below it. There’s also a full digital instrument cluster with a MID screen in the centre and top notch materials and martial quality. The Sonet is a five seater SUV and how much space it really has, will be put to test when the vehicle arrives in Goa soon.

Mechanically the Son\net will get its power from a 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine with 6-speed automatic, while a petrol engine will also be on offer apart from the newly introduced IMT gearbox that has made its debut on the Hyundai Venue.

Talking about exterior paint options, the Kia Sonet will get 7 singe tone and 3 dual tone paint schemes. On the single tone side there’s Glacier white pearl, Steel silver, Granite grey, Intense red, Intelligency blue, Aurora black pearl and Beige gold. Dual tone has Beige gold + aurora black combo, Glacier white pearl + aurora black pearl combo and Intense red + aurora black pearl combo.

When the Kia Sonet goes on sale in the second half of 2020, it will rival the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3OO, Ford Ecosport and Tata Nexon among many other upcoming models including the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Renault Kigher and Nissan Magnite.
