Maruti Suzuki has introduced its new in-house developed 1.5 litre DDIS 225 diesel engine under the hood of the new generation Ertiga. The new diesel will be available three trims Vdi, Zdi and Zdi+ and is the second product to receive the engine after the Ciaz.
Sharing his thoughts on Maruti Suzuki’s new offering, Mr. R.S. Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Considering the requirements of evolving customers, the Next Gen Ertiga is now offered with new 1.5-litre Diesel engine. The new engine is a perfect combination of performance and refinement. It showcases Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to provide products aligned with customers aspirations. We are sure this new engine option will strengthen the popularity of Ertiga in urban MPV segment.”

Plonked under the hood of the Ertiga, the 1.5 litre DDIS 225 motor produces 70kw of power @ 4000rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 1500-2500rpm. Just like in the Ciaz, the Ertiga too receives a 6-speed manual transmission thus replacing the 5-speed transmission. Speaking about fuel economy It delivers a fuel economy of 24.20kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki says, it has reduced engine fluctuations by making use of a dual mass fly wheel and a pendulum type engine mounting to further compliment ride quality leading to refined noise vibrations and harshness levels.
Popular among India’s young buyers, Maruti Suzuki’s Next Gen Ertiga is India’s best-selling MPV. It is leader in the segment with 39% market share. Launched in November 2018, the stylish Next Gen Ertiga became an instant hit with customers selling over 40,000 units in Nov-April period. This reflects a growth of over 150% compared to same period last year.
