Mercedes Benz when launched the new generation GLE in the Indian market in January had it available only in diesel; however the automaker has now introduced the petrol version of the GLE in the Indian market.
Buyers can now choose between four variants the GLE 300D priced at Rs 73.70 lakhs, GLE 450 petrol priced at Rs 88.80 lakhs, GLE 400D at Rs 89.90 and GLE 400 hip hop edition which was priced at Rs 1.25 crore ( all ex showroom prices). The GLE 400D however has been launched as a locally assembled product as opposed to the CBU it was earlier.
The biggest change lies under the hood where it now comes powered by 3.0 litre six cylinder petrol motor making 367hp and 500Nm of torque, it comes mated to a 9-speed transmission with 48v mild hybrid system. Mercedes Benz claims a 0-100kmph sprint of 5.7 seconds.
The GLE 400D also uses the same 3.0 litre motor but produces 325hp and 700 Nm torque, it comes mated to a 9G tronic gearbox and has an electronically limited top speed of 245kmph.
Talking about features, the GLE 450 gets 20 inch five spoke alloy wheels, LED headlights, auto park assist, 360 degree camera, MBUX user interface, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, illuminated scuff plates, electrically adjustable rear seats, four zone climate control, blind spot assist and Airmatic suspension.
The Mercedes Benz GLE takes on the BMW X5, Audi Q5, Range Rover Sport, Volvo XC90 and the Land Rover Discovery.
