Mercedes Benz launches GLS400 priced at Rs 99.90 lakhs

Mercedes Benz has launched the new third generation GLS400 in the Indian market priced at Rs 99.90 lakhs (ex showroom prices). The new GLS has been brought to India via the CKD route and assembled at the automakers plant in Chakan Pune.

The new GLS has grown in size and now measures 5,207mm in length, 1,823mm in height, and 1,999mm in width. The new full blown SUV is also based on a new Modular high architecture platform and has a wheelbase 3,153mm.

The GLS in its third generation too retains its large SUV attribute but receives slightly rounded LED headlights flanked by a double slat chrome grille and an all new front bumper along with a shiny skid plate. The side profile looks exactly the same as the models from the past accept for the addition of new 21-inch five spoke alloy wheels. The rear however gets a new set of twin piece LED taillights and a revised rear bumper.

The interior of the new GLS is a vast improvement and more in line with the designs we are seeing on latest Merc models introduced recently. The cabin has grown larger and has much more space on offer and that includes space on all three rows as well. The dual screen setup that includes the instrumentation and infotainment is present in the new GLS as well. The dashboard in itself is new and has varied number of features on offer too.

New in the features list are plenty with kit like Multibeam LED headlights, integrated daytime running lights, MBUX infotainment system with natural voice control and gesture control, large Panoramic sunroof, 64 colour ambient lighting, wireless charging at front and rear, 11 USB ports, 5-zone Thermotronic climate control, electric sunblinds in second row, Nappa leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel and an Easy pack tailgate.

Buyers can choose between two engine options – a 450 petrol and a 400d diesel. The petrol GLS gets a 3.0 litre motor that churns out 367hp and 500 Nm of torque, while the more popular GLS 400 receives a 3.0 litre diesel which produces 330hp and 700 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 9-speed automatic paired to 4MATIC all wheel drive.

Among the lengthy list of feature list on offer, there’s also the off road ABS, 9 airbags, adaptive high beam assist plus, 360 degree camera, attention assist, blind spot assist and active brake assist on offer as well.

Mercedes is also offering as many as 5 paint schemes that include Mojave Silver, Cavansite blue, Obsidian black, Selenite grey and Hyacinth red. The Mercedes Benz GLS 400 rivals the Audi Q8 and the BMW X7 in competition talk.
