Morris Garages has launched its second product in the Indian market after the Hector. Surprisingly the second MG product for the Indian market is also a SUV, an electric SUV.
The ZS EV has been launched in Indian at a price tag of Rs 20 lakhs (ex showroom prices). However the first the first few customers who placed their order before January 17th, are eligible for a price tag of Rs 19 lakhs which is nearly Rs 1 lakh off from the just revealed price tag.
The ZS EV will however be available only in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Amdebhad and Bangalore. Manufactured at MG’s Halol plant, the ZS EV will come in two variants Excite and Exclusive. The ZS EV has a very crossover like profile and gets interesting design elements such as a diamond studded grille, large sweptback LED headlamps, stylish alloy wheels, functional roof rails and large combination taillamps.

On the inside, the ZS EV makes use of high quality materials and comes finished in a full black trim for a sporty appearance. Also on offer is brushed allumium, soft touch leather and chrome in the plenty. The MG ZS EV offers seating for 4 passengers in comfort, however fitting in 5 passengers could be a squeeze. It also gets a 470–litre boot with a 60:40 split option.
The 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainments system takes centre stage and comes loaded with features some of them being Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and embedded e-sim technology. Among the array of features available through the i-smart tech and the embedded e-sim technology, the ZS EV gets many EV specific features –
Battery and range status – lets you know the current battery level and real time remaining range on the app.
Charging Information- Know the time remaining to charge, charging current & voltage when the vehicle is on charge on the app.
Eco Friendly Updates – Know contribution made to the environment in terms of CO2 saved & share it with friends
360 Spider Navigation – Know the dynamic range in each direction from your current location based on the traffic/road conditions.
Range Alert – Get alerts if the distance is out of the car’s remaining range and suggestions for the nearest charging station at the location where the range ends.
Charging Range Information – Search the charging stations on the inbuilt maps and get detailed information about them.
Voice Recognition – Find nearby charging stations, check battery status and remaining range via voice commands. Over 100+ voice commands activated by saying “Hello MG”.
It also gets push button start/stop, PM 2.5 filter, Pananormic sunroof, automatic projector headlamps, cruise control, daytime running lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, 6-way adjustable power driver seat, electronic parking brake, leatherette seats and rain sensing wipers.
Powering the car is an IP-67 rated lithium ion battery pack said to churn out 143hp and 353Nm of torque. The liquid cooled motor will offer 335 kms driving range and can sprint from 0-100kmph in 8.5 seconds.
Charging power and range anxiety is addressed from –
A 50kw DC charger that will be installed at select dealerships across the country and will juice up the battery to 80 percent in 50 mins. However this option will be free for a limited period only.
A 15amp wall socket pluggable charger socket with standard on-board charging cable.
A 7.4 Kw AC charger installed at home/office that will juice up the car in six to eight hours.
MG is also offering roadside assistance for the ZS EV incase an owner runs out of charge while on the road.
Like the Hector, the automaker is offering the MG shied which includes 5-years roadside assistance, 5-way charging, 5-years unlimited kilometres warranty and 5 free labour for servicing time.
Buyers can book their ZS EV in three paint schemes – Ferris white, Currant red and Copenhagen blue. The ZS EV only has the Hyundai Kona Electric as its main rival which is the only other EV on sale currently in that segment.
Sadly the all electric SUV is not available in Goa at the moment and won’t either be coming to our shores atleast not immediately. However it could eventually make its way here in the future.
