Tata Motors has launched the much awaited Nexon EV in the Indian market at a price tag of Rs 13.99 lakhs (ex showroom prices). The new 2020 Nexon EV however will only be available in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore for now.
The new Nexon EV will be available to buyers in three trims XZ, XM and XZ+ Lux, while it will also be offered in three paint schemes Glacier white, Moonlight silver and Signature Teal blue.
Commenting at the launch, Tata Sons Group Chairman, N Chandrasekaran said, “E-Mobility is an irreversible mega-trend and an imperative for addressing pollution and generating job opportunities in India. Through Tata universe, our Group companies have synchronized their efforts to develop a holistic e-mobility ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of EVs in India. I am delighted that this ecosystem has come together with the launch of Tata Nexon EV, a path breaking electric SUV that can match the aspirations of mainstream Indian customers.”
Talking about the design, the Nexon EV mimics the updated look that resembles the facelift. Exclusive to the EV iteration however are blue colour coded inserts on the fog lamp housings, side profile shoulder line and elsewhere around the car. There are also the EV and Ziptron badges that remind you that it is an electric car.
The interior too gets the same subtle blue touches around the cabin like for the A/C vents and so on. What is interesting however is that the absence of a gearlever too opens up space for storage, while in its place is a small rotary knob. The seat upholstery too gets blue tri star stitching printed on them.
In terms of features, the Nexon EV comes with automatic headlamps, daytime running lights, auto wipers, 7.0 inch touchscreen infortainment system, push button start/stop, keyless entry and an electric sunroof among many.
The Nexon EV is powered by an AC motor that churns out 129 PS and 245 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a single speed transmission and can sprint from 0-100kmph in 9.9 seconds. Also on offer are two drive modes – Drive and Sport which uses smart drive technology and regenerative braking to juice up the battery while coasting. Tata says the battery of the Nexon EV confirms to IP-67 standards and is resistant to dust, while it can also handle water upto 1 metre.
Juicing up the Nexon EV can be from various charging modes to get the vehicle to full charge. A standard charger that will take upto 8 hours to replenish to 100 percent charge from a 15 amp plug point, while a DC fast charger will charge upto 80 percent in 60 minutes. On a whole the Nexon EV boasts of offering 312kms on a single charge which is a pretty high figure to go with.
Tata also claims that the Nexon EV offers the same level of safety as the standard car which itself offers 5-star crash safety rating.
Adding an icing to the already tempting cake however is Tata’s promise of 8-years or, 1, 60,000 kms warranty on the battery and the motor (depending whichever is earlier). Bookings for the homegrown automaker’s electric SUV have also begun through select Tata Motors dealers or online on the company’s website.
