Having won hearts of many at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, Tata Motors is now gearing up for the global unveil of the production version of the 45X concept at the Geneva motor show. The automobile manufacturer has officially named the 45X concept to Altroz. A name the company claims to seek inspiration from the ‘Albatross’ a magnificent seabird.
Built on the new agile light and flexible advanced architecture, the Altroz is engineered to provide lightweight modular and flexible characteristics. The teaser released by Tata Motors has revealed a rather interesting looking hatchback with large headlights, wide front grille, long bonnet and curvy wheel arches.
A closer look at the teaser reveals that the hatchback receives an upright windscreen and flowing waistline. Although details on the interior haven’t been revelaed yet. A spacious cabin with a floating touchscreen inforrtainment system is expected to be part of the package.
Announcing the name of this much-anticipated vehicle, Mr. Mayank Pareek – President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said – “We are extremely elated to announce the name of our upcoming model, which will redefine the premium hatchback segment for the industry. With superlative design elements and a versatile architecture, the Tata ALTROZ is the perfect amalgamation of futuristic design, advanced technology; class leading connectivity, thrilling performance and smart packaging. We are excited to introduce this product to our customers and are gearing up for its commercial launch in mid – 2019. With Turnaround 2.0 now in full swing, we aim to continue winning sustainably in the PV segment through such timely product interventions”.
Under its hood the Altroz could be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel motors with transmission options being limited a manual at launch an automatic could most likely be offered in the future.
The Altroz will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20 and even the Volkswagen Polo. Besides let’s not forget Toyota’s version of the Baleno expected to make debut this year too.
