Until now boring and simple are two terms most would use to describe the design of the current generation Toyota Corolla . This however could all change with the unveiling of the all new Corolla sedan that has just been unveiled in China.
The new 12th generation Corolla is based on a TNGA platform and has grown in length by 10% at 4,650mm and width by 5% at 1780mm but shares the same wheelbase at 2700mm.
The new 2019 Toyota Corolla grabs most of its design cues from the recently unveiled Corolla hatchback which also sports an eye-catching design. The face looks sportier now with sleeker LED headlamps flanked through the large front grille that looks wide. The bumper gets a thick chrome insert for the fog lamps housing and a large air dam. The side profile looks massive and due to the sedan riding on large alloy wheels, while the roof flows smoothly into the rear. At the back the first thing that will grab your attention are the large taillamps connected through a chrome strip, along with a bumper with reflectors on either side.
The interior is based on the Sensuous Minimalism concept a design Toyota says is simple yet appealing. There’s a generous use of chrome in the all grey cabin along with soft touch upholstery and that adds a touch of class. The infotainment system has to the top of the dash and is a free standing unit that stands out unlike the integrated touchscreens offered on the earlier Corollas which honestly looked aftermarket.
Under the hood of the new executive sedan is expected to be powered the 1.8 litre petrol also carried forward along with 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options.
The Corolla that has made its debut here is the China spec car which will most likely be the model coming to India sometime in the middle of 2019. By the time the car gets to India it will have to rival an array of updated models with the likes of the updated Hyundai Elantra and next gen Honda Civic to battle with.
